Gangplank gets in shape
You did it! 8 weeks of eating better, being more active, and weighing in have come to a close. And after 8 weeks, 18 participants, and 2 scales the winner is.... Alivia Smith Alivia shed an incredible 14.5% of her starting weight. To put this feet into perspective, the runner up finished at a total loss of 6.3%. Talk about blowing out the competition! However, Alivia isn't the only winner here. 89% of participants lost weight over the course of the Fat-Off. Cumulatively, this is what we accomplished as...
This has certainly been the most low-key competition I've ever participated in. Two months of weigh ins, working out and eating better without much interaction with the other participants. I've managed to go from 213 to 207 in that time and I assure you I in no way starved myself, nor did I push myself to total exhaustion with two workouts a day. Slow, steady progress FTW.

At the end of week 3 the beloved official Fat-Off scale met its fate. RIP.We have a brand new scale thanks to Fat-Off contestant Tim Agersea. However, the new scale weighs "heavier" than the old scale. Based on the raw numbers, only one participant showed any loss last week. Therefore, everyone got a freebie last week. So, how are we going to adjust for this change going forward you ask?Well, as a group our total weight loss from baseline through the end of week 3 (4 data points) most closely a binomial curve...

I'm not big on training regimens. I tried and failed to follow programs for each of my half marathons since my first (though my fastest time was my first) mostly because they get so boring. Because I exercise on my own, my routine needs to be broken up a bit so I stay excited. And because I don't like training regimens, I've found the best way to motivate me to improved fitness is to have an event goal. Not a weight goal or a fat loss goal, but an event that involves at least running that's in a public place and costs...

The office is bringing in pizza today - my kryptonite. It's Papa John's - not my favorite, but definitely not crappy. I looked up the nutritional info. A slice from a large cheese pizza is 290 calories and 10g of fat... for ONE SLICE! I will eat one slice... and it will likely be the smallest pizza portion i've had since i was six. being fat is so much easier.
